Bodysattva Healing Arts Center
Serving the Conejo Valley since 1993

In the relaxed and peaceful environment of our healing arts center we provide hands-on therapies and movement practices to assist your healing and relaxation process. Therapies including chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture, microcurrent and various massage styles, are all tailored and administered to your specific needs, whether recovering from injury, dealing with pain or de-stressing after a challenging day. In the absence of trauma, pain occurs when the body is unable to adapt to the challenges imposed on it, be it physical or emotional. Though hands-on treatment may be very effective in controlling and reducing pain, ideally, treatment should be given prior to the occurrence of pain eliminating undue suffering. Wellness visits allow for more freedom of activity with less emotional and physical pain and stress, and also help to strengthen the immune system.

Our therapeutic philosophy blends classical and modern disciplines of Eastern and Western origins tailored to the underlying issues of each individual. Your needs are optimally addressed through the experience of each practitioner in concert with the resources of the group. Whether you are dealing with a new injury, chronic pain or you require a new way to manage the many demands of life, our objective is to build long-term relationships based on your wellness goals.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is best known for its effectiveness in treating back and neck pain, but it can also have positive and balancing effects on a much wider variety of problems.  The nervous system is the main pathway to the whole body’s ability to function, and chiropractic works with all of the nerves as well as the muscles and bones in the body to provide comfort and restore balance to the neuro-musculo-skeletal system.  Chiropractic can have positive effects on organ systems and hormone balance, can relieve discomfort associated with strains, sprains, headaches, carpal and tarsal tunnel syndromes, sciatica, and general body aches, pains and stiffness.

Acupuncture is a form of Chinese Medicine that has been used since the third century to promote health and alleviate pain.   It continues to thrive as a healing art because it addresses a wide range of ailments and disorders.  Acupuncture is based on natural laws that describe the movement of energy in nature and the body.  This energy, known as the “vital Qi”, is analogous to rivers moving on our planet.   Health is promoted when the Qi in the body moves properly, and acupuncture helps to accomplish this through painless placement of thread-like needles to get the vital Qi to flow properly and bring the body back into balance.

Acupuncture beneficially stimulates a number of influential bodily functions -- primarily the nervous system, the immune system, and the endocrine system.  It mediates pain relief, promotes relaxation of muscles and stimulates endorphin release. Acupuncture treats underlying imbalances and promotes harmony.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is an exciting new way of treating nerve and muscle pain and many other conditions using specific frequencies and micro amperage current. There are hundreds of practitioners across the US, Ireland, Australia, and Canada using FSM to create miraculous changes in patients to reduce pain and improve health. Most of the time FSM produces immediate dramatic changes in tissue that make it an indispensable tool in treating pain and many other health concerns.

FSM has been proven to offer successful pain management treatment for:

  • myofascial pain
  • nerve pain from nerve traction injuries, disc bulges, herniations, herpes and shingles
  • kidney stone pain
  • disc and facet joint generated pain
  • fibromyalgia associated with neck trauma

Food is fuel for our body; it propels us physically, mentally, and emotionally. The food choices we make and the quality of food we put in our system go a long way towards determining the level of our health and vitality.

Good nutrition is the key to preventing disease.

Proper nutrition is as important in adulthood for repair as it is in childhood for growth and development. As we continue to mature there is a constant turnover of cells to regenerate tissue, which includes the brain as well as the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems of the body. The materials used for this repair and regeneration come from the food we eat. Poor quality food choices provide poor quality materials to rebuild tissue, which leads to degeneration, weakness, and premature aging.

Pilates Rehabilitation

Pilates is a physical fitness and movement training program developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates to improve rehabilitation of World War I veterans.   Based on yoga postures, calisthenics and other movement disciplines, he concentrated on conditioning the entire body, but because he believed in the importance of using the mind to control the body he called this system ‘Contrology’.

Pilates exercises focus on deep, core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and support the spine and organs.  They integrate the awareness of breath and alignment of the spine in support of flowing movement.

The principles of Pilates’ system include alignment, centering, control, and effective breathing.  Proper alignment promotes efficiency of movement.  Centering allows for the energy to originate from what Pilates referred to as the ‘core’ or ‘powerhouse’.  Control of the body enables smooth, efficient mastery of muscles, which leads to precision of movement.  Finally, breath rejuvenates the blood, which keeps the body from stagnating.

At Bodysattva, we stay true to Joseph Pilates’ vision of rehabilitating the human body and optimizing its functions.  Since each person’s body is unique, we design programs to enhance strength, flexibility and control in each individual. Unlike cookie-cutter gym programs where all bodies are treated the same, we dedicate our expertise to meeting personal goals and needs.  Joe’s philosophy of ‘Contrology’ aligns perfectly with  Bodysattva’s objective and mission:  to understand and master our bodies.
